Ethan Anderson & Massy Ferguson
Ethan Anderson & Massy Ferguson
Massy Ferguson is a bar band in the best sense -- not a band relegated to bars because it will never rise higher, but a band that plays music perfectly suited to dark, crowded rooms in which there's at least a possibility of a beer glass smashing against a wall.

The songs, filled with barflies, broken hearts and doomed late-night romance, would sound pretty good anywhere, though. Singer-bassist Ethan Anderson says the sound is Americana that leans more toward rock than country, and that's a pretty good description. Think Drive-By Truckers or some combination of Son Volt and The Hold Steady. Think Springsteen's "Greetings From Asbury Park" or "Nebraska." Those are all influences, as is 1970s Southern rock and good-time classic rock bands like Thin Lizzy.
The Cosmic Shuffle
The Cosmic Shuffle
The Cosmic Shuffle formed spontaneously in 2015 when keyboardist Charles Wicklander, bassist Dune Butler, and drummer William Mapp joined forces to provide entertainment for a house party in the dead of winter. Although the trio had never played together before, the chemistry was immediately apparent as they began improvising on their shared musical language. Later that night they were joined by guitarist David Salonen, creating a sonic supernova that spawned The Cosmic Shuffle.

The Cosmic Shuffle draws influence from iconic midcentury musical acts such as The Grateful Dead, Crosby Stills and Nash, and The Band as well as from modern artists like My Morning Jacket, First Aid Kit, and The Fleet Foxes to create their own unique blend of harmony driven psychedelic rock. Although each member is cut from their own musical cloth, all of them have a strong background in the jazz tradition. Their group improvisations draw heavily upon the free playing found in the music of Albert Ayler and the John Coltrane Quartet.

The Cosmic Shuffle strives to create unfiltered, artistic statements that reflect the emotions and influences of each individual member. Each concert tells a different psychedelic story, encompassing soundscapes that reflect the pacific northwest.
