Clash Valian
Clash Valian
Clash Valian is the brain child of Greg Merrell, an amalgamation of sample-inspired contemporary compositions and basement-forged grimy rock songs . Compiled over the course of the last 10 years, his songs have been written in between his time playing with Pokemon Dad, The Friendly Cannons, and $2,000 Puma. The band has had one to four members at various times with Merrell being at the center of songwriting and vocals. Clash Valian’s music has been exploring the ether driven auditory landscapes of the accessibly odd. Whether it be struggling to accept the new norms and implications of a digital era, a grandmother who loses her ability to communicate, or a South African friend who's baijiu infused blood causes him to swim in toxic environments, Clash Valian’s songs are lyrically rich with darkly comical statements about the human condition.

Here’s what people have to say about projects that Merrell has been involved with:

“Surging raw power digs deep into the root of your soul and brings forth glimmering audio images and goose-bump worthy titillation similar to an LSD trip” – Shenzhen Local Music

“Up and coming math rock/post rock.” – The Nanfang

“Sounds frigin’ great” –

“… able to drive concepts of maths-angularity with the folding features of psychadelia effectively and the resulting out-put marks a difference of space. Guitars and voices are not used to add volume, rather paint the rich textures which gives the material its interest” – Emerging Indie Bands

“A rich mix of math rock rhythms tossed over autumnal indie rock melodies, it’s a confident piece of work.” –
